Geobrowser Help

The Appropedia Geobrowser is a community-built resource that can help field workers find useful local resources.

-- Zoom in or out by clicking on the large "+" or "-" icons in the upper left of the map.
-- Double-click on a spot to zoom and center on that spot. A series of double-clicks allows you to zoom fairly quickly.
-- Show or hide icons on the map by checking/unchecking the boxes in the category tree.
-- View the subcategories by expanding / contracting the category tree (click on "+" or "-" for the tree items)
-- Learn about local resources by moving mouse cursor over an icon.
-- Click on an icon to learn more (this mechanism will be improved)

Return to the main forums by clicking the link on the upper right.

Anyone can view the geobrowser.

To add additional resources to the map, you first must become a registered user of the forums.
After that, simply contact the admin and request the "mapbuilder" role, and we will give it to you.
We may open up resource creation to all registered users, but for now (beta) we want to have a shorter list of mapbuilders to discuss features, etc.

Once you have received "mapbuilder" credentials, you will have the ability (under the "Create content" menu item) to create an element called a "Located Node". To add a geobrowser resource, create the Located Node, and add the required information:
1) Provide a title. This is the title of the page itself
2) Category (which will associates with an icon that can be turned on/off by viewers). You can select more than one category.
3) Provide some information that will be viewed if someone clicks on the resource icon on the geobrowser.
4) Assign latitude and longitude, which can either be entered directly (if you know it) or can be assisted by opening the Location tab and single-clicking on the map provided. You can double click, zoom, scale, click-and-drag the map, etc, before clicking to mark where the node belongs. If you click in the wrong spot, click again in a better spot. (This map has been acting funny, but usually you can convince it to do its job.)

Mapbuilders also have access to a tool that enables importing bulk nodes. Mapbuilders can learn more at this page.

Please populate the map with useful (and accurate) resources.
Please also use the feedback link at left to give us feedback!

Thanks,
The Appropedia Team
